Engineering ethics classes offered at universities have a tendency to be viewed as an easy low stress elective instead of introducing students going into the petroleum industry to the full financial, legal, and long term reputation ramifications of EH&S non compliance.

While news reports of industrial disasters may spur interest among students, not many are required to sift through and summarize the key points of all relevant EH&S regulations (as well as point out deficiencies and room for improvements) as part of the curricula.

In light of the “Great Crew Change” and the need to educate/mould the next generation of professionals to adopt a more holistic approach to safety, what have stakeholders in industry attempted so far in bringing SEMS awareness to the next generation?
