Compliance to government regulations is difficult to say the least.  Managing corporate objectives and doing the right thing should not be an arduous task.  What really makes it a daunting task, or causes chaos, is one’s ability to read, translate and implement regulations. For example, take a look at the Code of Federal Regulations.  I can easily compare looking through CFR’s to high school level book work.  Scanning through pages of blocked text and trying to interpret only the information you really need to find; it really makes me wish these regulations were easier to read.

Taxonomy is defined in the dictionary as, “the classification of organisms in an ordered system that indicates natural relationships.”  By applying this method to word and text, we can create an easily understandable format that highlights key parts of speech so readers can identify information with ease.

While not necessarily grammatically correct, this method of separation makes short work of what could potentially take hours for those short on time but must comprehend information quickly.

By creating a taxonomy version of the CFR’s, the hope is to help improve competency amongst non-management level employees.  While not a perfect method (it does not force competency), for the few that do look at particular regulations, it will be much more easily understood.
