Despite all the negative effects of the current shutdown, this would eventually have to end at some point, and the many departments within the regulatory agencies will have to pick up where they left off along with some additional tasks.  Current BSEE regulations primarily focus on operational/personal safety to prevent further oil spills from active and abandoned wells.

What has not received as much attention are brownfields and drill cuttings/produced water disposal sites (be it on land or offshore) as well as their subsequent remediation activities.

In light of case studies such as the Glyn Rhonwy Project (an abandoned mine site transformed into a pump storage project), what future mechanisms would industry want to see added to SEMS? We welcome your thoughts on this.
