The Importance of Usability in GRC Software

When it comes to governance, risk, and compliance, simplicity is not the first thing that comes to mind. Working in regulatory compliance can seem like an over-complicated maze of run-on sentences and unclear requirements at times. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

One way to help simplify the regulatory compliance process is by using regulatory compliance software. However, be careful what solution you choose because many of the options are just as complicated as their subject matter. Usability can be a big indicator of a solution’s worth. If the software is not user-friendly, what is the point of exchanging one inefficient process for another?

An effective solution will simplify every aspect of compliance. That means that the user interface needs to be intuitive to every type of user, from the power users to the occasional users. The most impressive solution will cater to both power users and occasional users. Just because a solution is simple does not mean that it has no depth. Even user-friendly software can have powerful functionality.

When shopping for a solution, always ask to try a demo of the product so you can see how easy it will be to learn. And always keep in mind that other employees in your organization might not be as computer-savvy as you. The learn ability of a product can often indicate how effective it will be.

The main aspect to look for is efficiency. As a business, the goal is for all processes to be as efficient as possible. It saves time and money, which hopefully results in higher profit margins. An efficient solution can do everything you need it to do with the smallest number of required clicks and screens.
